It makes sense to at least some people. From today’s New York Times:There are certainly lots of people who think that way. Again, I hear people say it all the time. The thinking is that the employer reduces wages by approximately the amount of his share of the tax. But if that's true, it also assumes that the employer is the only one who controls the price of wages. Yet the reason why your employer pays you more than minimum wage is supply and demand. If he wants your services, he's got to pay and you don't care what his expenses are. Therefore the employee must also has some control over wages.
