(It's not a pure savings, because they doubtless keep the tubes warm,

they still use Tubes?


Now, in the biggest cities, most stations stay on all night, but in the smaller venues it's not unusual to see the station sign-off and sign-back on, because the potential audience just doesn't justify the expenditure.



dont' know about on air ..but most cable channels switch to "Paid Programming" at night ..

think it wouldn't take much audience to make that profitable.
