I've been using the glass 5-gallon carboy that the spring water comes in as my primary.

I know I've always lost some wort during the first few days of fermentation--but in 10 years, I've never had any go this vigourously.

I've toyed with the idea of using a plastic 6-gallon carboy for my primary, but never thought I'd really need one. Until now. It was an unneccesary expense since I had the empty water bottle.

Live and learn.
