I've done Mammoth Caves several times, but not in the past few years. (I'm a cave nut and make a point of visiting the "underworld" whenever I am in the vicinity of any good caves.) Am not familiar with Action Park, nor can I address the hotel situation this many years hence. The cave is an absolute must, kids love it. There are also some exceptional hiking trails in and around the grounds of the cave.

Nearby, IIRC GM had the Corvette assembly line (Bowling Green) and that could be a fun tour for the you and the boys. If y'all like animals, up towards Louisville is the Kentucky Horse Park and that is quite worthwhile; if there are events going on (horse shows) it can be hectic ... otherwise, they still have much to see with virtually every breed of horse represented, carriage rides, demonstrations of all kinds.

All I can think of at this minute, but I know there's lots more. Heck, just in the area of Mammoth Cave, there are a bunch more caves not on the National Park grounds.

Happy vacationing!
