I've gotten some really great input from all of you. I realize I may be waiting awhile to put the money to work. I, too, like to have that uptrend going on.

In the past, I've mostly used Income Investor for my long term trades and most of my Hidden Gems turned out to be short term trades. I just finished looking through the charts for all of the Income Investor picks and there are very few that appeal to me. Yet, I know that there are some there that are probably presenting really good long term value.

In any case, I am not in a hurry. I may establish some small positions in those I'm looking at for long term, but I won't be buying full positions until we see some sign of a turn around.

I think I will do some short term trading in the meantime with real money. I do keep a spreadsheet on all of my trades and a trading diary where I enter my expectations on entering, adjustments of stops, and reasons for exitting trades. It has been a great learning tool.

Tim, thanks for the brushup on position sizing. I need to do some more work on that in accourdance with risk.
