I've heard that if you aren't getting enough sleep that it is better to cycle through going forward than to try to go to bed earlier. That is, go to bed an hour later each day until you are going to bed at the time that gives you the natural sleep you need.

However, I don't know anyone who has tried this, so don't know how it works in practice. I'm one who sleeps 6 or 7 hours maximum and wakes up without an alarm clock on a regular basis.
