I've never heard of 'bad' coolant making the heater quit. If you changed the thermostat and it still is cold, try flushing the heater core. Pull the hoses off and hold a garden hose to one inlet and then the other. If that don't work try a chemical flush. You can bu\y cleaner to run in the whole coolant system or do as I did in a previous post and run some muriatic acid through it only and flush well with water. DON'T do this if you have an aluminum heater core. If thermostat and flushing dont work then a new core is probably in your future.
