i've never used a CC for a cash advance, but I remember reading about cash advances and it's exactly as you stated. The best solution to avoid this is to have your DD email/call you that she's running short and you deposit funds in her account. Our son had a cash flow problem while going to school (loan funds deposited after bill was due), so we made a deposit into his account and he paid us back when he received the funds

I am on the same account that her ATM/Debit VISA is with so I can go online and check out her balances and then run make a deposit if I need to. I am thinking of this as purely an emergency such as she needs some extra funds and DH and I are unable to get the money into her account fast enough. I am not expecting her to use it, but I will get a PIN for it for the time she will be there and then cancel the pin.
I just had no clue as to how to get the cash with a credit card.
I am thinking I should contact my DIL who does the cash advance thing on occasion :(

Some of my grandmother's family still live in Exeter so in a real pinch I am sure one of them might help out or some family friends in Cambridge.
