I've used OpenOffice as well as every version of MS Office since at 97. Office 2007 (which introduced the Ribbon) was a big change, but once I got used to it, I found it much easier to use. However, I use keyboard shortcuts for as much stuff as I can, so not being able to find someone in the ribbon wasn't a problem for me. I found that the new features that 2007 introduced that 2010 improved on out-weighed the learning curve (such as Styles, SmartArt, automatic table of contents, better footnoting, etc)
