Jake, you've received a lot of good advice here.... Make sure you're investing in the TSP first. Then, contribute to your IRA. After you've done that, then you can start experimenting with a handful of stocks. But keep in mind, everything from the seemingly simple index fund to the often complicated task of picking out individual stocks will require TIME. Only invest in stocks you have time to keep track of. And, although I'm sure you're busy, read, read, read and learn more. Start here on this site. Get a few books from your local library. And, by all means, keep posting your questions here.
