BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- Janus Capital Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer Gary Black bought nearly $1.5 million of the Denver-based mutual fund company's stock in the open market on Friday, a Janus spokeswoman confirmed Monday.
Black, who is also the firm's chief investment officer, purchased 75,000 shares at $19.75 each, according to a Monday regulatory filing.
"This was an open-market transaction, and clearly reflects Mr. Black's confidence in the firm," Janus spokeswoman Shelley Peterson said.
Mark Lane, an analyst at William Blair & Co. called the move "a pretty strong statement."
"It's not an immaterial transaction," Lane said.
