Japanese beetles can be easily trapped by using a small container of water. Go out early in the morning and put the container under the foliage where they are eating. When the leaves are distrurbed, most of the beetles fall downwards right into your container. Just don't get so many on the surface of the water that they start to use each other as launching pads, and thus fly away. The chickens love to feast on these things when I have done trapping work. NO chemicals! :)
