jdbmd, she is correct up to a point.the amount paid into ss while working is taxed and if income in retirement is above a certain level her ss will be taxed again. ss is not welfare. people who work pay into it, their children pay into it, their grand children pay into it etc. so smile at your grandmother but put the cookie in the container for spme one else
