It think this is a question the US needs to think about very carefully.
Assuming the prediction FastMike made is correct and China becomes a 'complete' economy in ten years meaning that it has reached critical mass and is self sustaining, it would not be essential for China to export to the US.
So, US manufacturers may have the US domestic market to themselves but China at the same time will have a massive unfulfilled domestic market many times bigger than the US. If the US block Chinese imports then you can be absolutely certain that China will do the same to US imports. Who will benefit from that scenario ?? Not the US imv.
