JEffdFool -Have you tried recommending better funds to your employer? I'm sure you can recommend some that are better than pitiful. If your employer is not open to such recommendations, organize your fellow employees. If the funds are pitiful, you'll probably find plenty of support. Pick a few funds that you can back up with reasoning. Write up a request that management (or their agency that services your 401k program) considers the changes, present it to your employer in a professional (non-confrontational) manner with 50 or so signatures. You don't have to do all of this yourself. You can farm out some of the prep work to your peers. Even if you don't "win", you will learn a lot, and possibly be seen by your employer as one with great initiative. (or you'll be fired for being a rabble-rouser!)Good luck...
