Thanks for the reply. I've ended up purchasing a tutorial software package called "Guitar Methods 1", or something like that, from eMusic. Seems ok so far. One nice thing is that the CD comes with both Mac and Windows versions of the software. Unfortunately the Mac version seems to have a few problems with the new OS X operating system. The basic functions work fine but some of the other goodies (chromatic tuner, metronome) are kinda sketchy.

I also purchased a USB audio adpater made by Griffin to hook my guitar up to the computer. That works great. Bought a shareware app called Sound Studio to do recording and editing (not that I have anything to edit yet). I even found a cool program that simulates the effects from various types of amplifiers. It looks really cool but all I get is feedback when I try to run the demo version. I don't think it's anything caused by the setup of my computer, maybe that's just what the demo does. I'll try to contact the company and see if that's normal.
