Kathleen,Me: Radio links for control of military cave robots actually are a bad idea for another reason. A moderately sophisticated enemy like Al Qaeda could use the radio link to hijack the robot. Thus, it's much better to design the cave crawler to let out a twisted pair communication link as it goes into the cave. You: It can always be designed to use mac addresses, or IP addresses. I'd also toss Bluetooth into the mix, but the distances allowed by BT are rather short for those situations. I'm not persuaded that such a solution would solve the problem. A moderately sophisticated enemy could extract the IP addresses from just one intercepted transmission of a legitimate command. The use of a radio control link would require much more sophisticated security measures.Norm.
