I wanted to post this on LBYM because it's such a thrifty idea, but I didn't want to give Too Much Information to the mixed crowd there.
I've been using The Keeper (http://www.keeper.com/), the reusable menstrual cup. It's so cool!
You would think that it would be uncomfortable, messy, and gross, but it's not (no more so than a tampon, anyway). It's so much more convenient than a tampon because it's safe to leave in all day or all night, until it gets full. I've never had it leak on me, either, which saves me from having to replace stained clothing. I used to always forget to bring extra tampons when I went to work or to a social event, but that isn't a problem with the Keeper. And the best part for me (TMI ALERT!!!) is that I avoid the dryness and irritation I used to get from using tampons.
I haven't calculated the savings but I know pads and tampons are expensive, and the Keeper has long since paid for itself.
I don't know why more women don't use these because they are so convenient, economical, and safe (they do not put you at risk for toxic shock syndrome).
Has anyone else discovered the joy of The Keeper?
