Below are two post circulating on the internet message boards. People who have been the life-blood of Jeep are angry. Can Chrysler afford to kill the golden goose?POST 1 (PETA message reposted on sportsmans message boards)A few weeks ago, we alerted you to an advertisement by Jeep, a DaimlerChrysler subsidiary, featuring a man driving a Jeep with two deer tied to the roof. At first glance, the deer appear to be a hunting conquest. The driver passes two hunters who exchange looks of admiration over their "fellow hunter's" success. However, the driver continues to a grassy area with a "No Hunting" sign and releases the deer, who are actually alive, into safety. Not surprisingly, so-called "sportsmen" are furious with Jeep for taking shots at hunters. They flooded Jeep's customer service lines with angry calls, prompting Jeep to pull the ad after only a week. However, we have just gotten word that Jeep is considering running the ad again if enough calls come through in support of it. Please call or write DaimlerChrysler and ask them to put this pro-animal advertisement back on the air.You may call DaimlerChrysler's Customer Center at 1-800-992-1997 or fax them at 248-512-1760.POST 2Now what does this tell us about Jeep? If this ad had been the result of an attempt at humor gone wrong (as Jeep claimed), they would have pulled the ad - end of discussion. However, for them to even consider rerunning this ad, then someone high up in Chrysler is supporting the anti-hunting message. So Chrysler has lied to us, and will probably lie to us again. So what do we do? 1) Call Chrysler, voice your displeasure with them; 2) Boycott Chrysler thru the end of March. If you were planning on buying a Chrysler product, either delay your purchase until April, or buy another brand. (If Chrysler does not confirm firm support for the sportsman by the end of March, buy GM or Toyota - Don't buy Ford, The Ford Foundation supports antigun causes). 3) If you own a Jeep, print a sign that says "My next vehicle will NOT be a Jeep". Post this in your car window. Send a message to Chrysler that they cannot spit in our eye, and then expect us to buy their product.
