KrissyLou,It's terrific of you to be supportive of your friend. For background, I'm a diagnosed bipolar as well; I'm not currently on medication, but I used to take lithium and Depakote (or officially, valproic acid). I remember clearly my shrink and therapist then strongly recommending that I go on the pill because of the contraindications for a woman who might become pregnant. For a nice link about bipolar and unipolar disorders, and affective disorders:http://www.frii.com/~parrot/affect.htmlThis is an excellent summary about the spectrum of "affective disorders." This article specifically mentions various physical conditions, not limited to "chronic pain." Also, if she was on depakote, I remember that depakote is also a known medication to prevent migraines. For a good link about bipolar (manic depression) and unipolar (regular depression) disorders:http://www.frii.com/~parrot/bip.htmlOr check the other general links I had previously posted at:http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=14551368Good luck, Meg.
