My laptop backlight (the thingamajig that makes the screen viewable) seems to be dead / broken. I can see the dim image of the screen and can move the (dim) mouse pointer, but the brightness is alomst zero. I've tried adjusting it up and down which did no good, and when I plugged another monitor into the laptop, everything shows up fine on the new monitor (oddly, the laptop monitor came back to life also, but only until I unplugged the peripheral monitor). Any ideas on what has to be checked or replaced to make the screen viewable again?

Thank you,
