This is from the DJ Newswires, very interesting. Since J&J is going to acquire Biosense, it makes sense that Laser Industries may itself become a takeover target by J&J.
Dow Jones Newswires -- October 7, 1997 Laser Indus, Biosense To Develop Laser Sys To Treat Angina
TEL AVIV (Dow Jones)--Laser Industries Ltd. (LASRF) and Biosense Inc. agreed to develop a laser system for use in direct myocardial revascularization, a minimally invasive heart procedure to relieve angina pain.
In a press release Tuesday, Laser Industries said the companies will use a direct endocardial laser technology for the revascularization of ischemic heart muscles based on Biosense's guidance system and catheters with optical fibers, and Laser Industries' Sharplan Holmium laser system adapted for the application. The system allows for the delivery of energy to selected sites on the inner side of the heart wall, Laser Industries said.
Laser Industries has submitted an Investigational Device Exemption application to treat patients using the DMR system using the Sharplan Holmium laser system.
Biosense, Haifa, Israel, develops catheter-based interbody navigation and location systems used in cardiology and neurosurgery. Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ) Cordis Corp. unit signed a definitive agreement Sept. 24 to acquire Biosense Inc.
Laser Industries designs, makes, markets and services aesthetic and surgical laser systems for use in medical applications.
