Last week my '95 Civic was hail damaged. I go in to the insurance claims place tomorrow. I own the car and I am seriously considering taking the cash and leaving the car as is. I plan to keep it for about 10 years and in another year a teenage boy will be driving it. Any opinions ?My brother did this a couple of years ago. The car was considered "totaled" so he obviously couldn't continue to carry collision/comprehensive on it. The insurance company is happy to pay a repair shop directly, but they WILL pay you the money if you choose. You are insuring the value of the car, which has been reduced or eliminated by the hail. If they give you the run around about this (I've never heard of it happening), switch companies.Lara
