Last year I picked up a new Honda Fit. At the time the cost savings on reduced fuel consumption accounted for about 1/2 the car payment. Now the savings on gas is ~75-80% of my car payment. My timing was pretty good on that purchase :-)I did look at getting a Prius but the $8-10K price difference, compared to my Fit, did not make sense financially. That is 80-100K miles worth of gas; that is a very long time to wait for my break even point. Since I have averaged 41.3 MPG since I got my Fit, the Prius is even less desirable from a financial perspective.
