Late reply, but better late than never:

Long story short:

-I grew up in a Conservative Republican household.

-I was a registered Republican until 2002, at which point I began to veer over to the Dems

-I've voted blue since the 2004 Presidential elections, and voted for Barack Obama last Fall.

So far your history matches mine 100%

-I'm a war vet - US Army - My experiences in Iraq have been most of what has motivated me to move further and further leftward

(before any crazy right or left wingnuts think about recruiting me into some bizarre militia, it should be known that war has thoroughly transformed me into an avid pacifist and a strictly non-violent activist...lol...move on over to the next loony war vet, you'll never get this one to wave a gun around again...)

-I am wholly dissatisfied with the Democratic Party, its leadership, its domestic monopoly on leftist ideals and its refusal to hold the previous Executive Branch and its agents accountable for violations of international and domestic law including war crimes and torture, crimes against peace and the invasion and subsequent occupation of sovereign nations posing no threat to the USA.

No vet here. But it's the nuttiness that pervades the gun-happy popular culture in America that makes me think I might not be better off armed to combat the crazies that buy into the gunmetal mystique...

Also, I'm kind of dissatisfied with the Democrats, for the reasons you've described, yet they provide a "lesser evil" by a long shot. I'd love to see a third party arise out of this mess. Ron Paul would be a good figurehead to lead the kind of party I'm thinking of. Obviously I'm not talking about a pro-socialism party, but a functionally constitutionalist counterpoint to the rabid right-leaning clusterfark that characterizes the modern GOP.
