Lawrence: 'I'm interested in thoughts from the TMF members on how to play this for the short and long run.'

Hi Lawrence - I'm writing here as an individual investor, just like you. My views DO NOT represent that of the Motley Fool.

'I'm concerned about the dividend cut and the seemingly poor management based on the past year or so of performance.'

What 'seemingly poor management'? Surely you're not blaming them for record low gas prices and low demand driving low rates?

As for the possible dividend cut, they've consistently -- and rightly -- prioritized their credit rating while striving to maintain the dividend. In fact they're cutting Capex to do so, which is unsustainable in a such a capital intensive business.

'I mistakenly thought this was a "widow and orphan" stock so did not use a stop loss and now regretting it.'

If that means guaranteed dividends, I don't know of any competitive business in which you can expect that. Excelon's fortunes are largely at the mercy of regulators - that's both a safety feature and a risk.

As for "widow / orphan stocks" - great copy, delusionary investment label :)
