Me: That said, scripture scholars seem to have a pretty consistent opinion that the verse in question was never understood to exclude ordination of celibate men, even in apostolic times. Rather, it simply is saying that a candidate for ordination should have his act together and his life in order, both morally and spiritually.

You: Would that be RCC scholars?

Not exclusively, nor is celibacy the exclusive province of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church. The Orthodox Communion, for example, ordains married men as deacons and presbyters ("priests"), but ordains only monks, who are celibate, as bishops.

Maybe your scholars should not try to fit the scriptures to your traditions but make sure the traditions fit the scriptures otherwise the traditions or simply the traditions of men.

And maybe one should not assume that an English translation of a Greek text is a perfect reflection of the sense of the Greek text.
