I had the same problem with an elderly aunt of mine. They kept getting the social security checks mailed to the house. Poor thing had trouble moving (terrible arthritis in legs, knees and ankles) and it would take hours to for a trip to the bank (and a normal person would handle this in 1/2 hours).

I talked about automatic deposit for months. Finally my aunt moved out to the country, and I mentioned did she really want to risk the rocky driveway, snow and mobility problems. The only hitch was that I had to go to her house and make the call to sign her up for the automatic deposit. But it is done and that is one thing less on the list. I might mention that by this time she could barely move on her own.
