Lesson Learned: Don't smirk at your wife when her favorite channel is down and tell her it's the cable company or content provider's problem, since it's the only channel of hundreds that doesn't work.

Turned out my RG-58U lead from the main cable suddenly failed to pass channel 72 only, and continued to work fine for the rest of the lineup, both analog and digital.

Dunno if the cable company suddenly increased compression, or the old cable suddenly started creating standing waves at a particular frequency, but I had either black screen, stuttering sound, freezing, heavy pixalation, or a combination of all of that.

Replaced the lead with RG-6, and now she can watch HGTV again, armed with new ammunition against my troubleshooting skills. I hate that.
