What's up with this? While our enemies must be delighted by the incessant replays of the World Trade Center attack and collapse, they must be puzzled by that other kind of news coverage. You know--the stories of heroism and self-sacrifice. The stories of compassion, helpfulness, and plain ol' American efficiency. These qualities are beyond the understanding of, say, a certain skulking multimillionaire and his misguided flunkies, if indeed it was he (this time).

The dead hijackers are probably hailed by many in the Middle East as heroes. But when you hold up their so-called "heroism" against the true heroism of the hundreds of firefighters and police officers who rushed at great peril into the doomed towers Tuesday, you see a great difference. The actions of the terrorists have earned the enmity of the free world. The actions of New York's finest have inspired admiration (and, no doubt, recognition) in many other great and freedom-loving nations throughout the world.

Stories of compassion and remembrances of victims are reported almost hourly. The terrorists must find this type of news coverage alien and incomprehensible. Let them hit the Rewind button to watch the crashes again. It will be less frightening than watching the world unite against them.
