Can anyone explain this to me?

When I look at cars for sale on e-bay or Classifieds 2000, sometimes I'll see that the seller has gone to the effort of blurring or blacking out his license plate number in the photo. Is that a secret? Why are they trying to hide the plate? Do they drive around with a cover over it so the thousands of people they drive past every day can't see it either? What exactly are they trying to hide???
