Likewise, the OP wasn't talking about teaching as a part-time sideline, but as a full-time career.

Excellent point. It's much easier to teach part-time at even the university level than it is to get hired on full-time. It's simple enough if you are already retired and just looking to supplement retirement income, but tougher if you need the job to actually meet expenses.
