Local Union #3 IBEW. Thanks.

Not to stir up the hornets nest like some have done. The point of the question, do you know how stable and how well funded your union pension is.

For example, years ago one airline filed bankruptcy, pilots and stewardesses (not called flight attendants yet) were all union. All their pension were "restructured" because the Feds took them over. Many were lucky to get 40% of what they expected.

Local police pension fund in deep do-do after managers invested in two local golf courses. They got them cheap but they have also lost the funds $$$$$. IIRC, they were forced to sell one of them.

Future examples, many state pensions are grossly underfunded. Mainly by using over exuberant estimates for stock market returns. 12% for an average return? Really?

The point is, you might try to find out as much as you can as to what, where, and how your pension plan is invested. And can you influence those decisions? Any shareholder's meetings? Your pension might not be that safe.
