long term investing of around $75k+ (SIPC under limits )long term investing of around $75k+ (SIPC under limits )

Just so you are aware, the SIPC protects up to $500k, which includes up to $250k in cash: https://www.sipc.org/for-investors/what-sipc-protects so, your goal of $75k is significantly below the limits of SIPC protection. However, SIPC protection only insures that your securities and cash will be restored to your account - it does NOT protect against any decrease in value of the account or the securities held in it.

Plus, all of the firms mentioned to you are large national broker-dealers, which makes it likely that if they needed to use SIPC insurance, there would probably be a lot more to worry about than just if your account was under the limit.
