What happens if I inherit a stock fund from a family member through a direct beneficiary plan, and the fund has not been realized (cashed - out) yet, and the original owner was in the long-term capital gains tax bracket of 20% and I as an inheriter am in a lower capital gains tax bracket, when I cash out in 3 years do I pay the lower bracket or not? please explain.
