Looks like you do better over the long haul to have a nice bunch of bonds in your mix

It all depends on the time frame selected. Bonds look great over the past 10-20 years with falling interest rates. If you look back in the 70s, not so much because you had drastic rising interest rates.

The going theory of holding bonds in your portfolio is that it is supposed to reduce volatility and provide steady income. Which it does to a certain degree.
