<How would you deal with the situation if you were either underwater or lost a big chunk of your equity when you sold in 2-3 years?>

In terms of lost equity, I was thinking (and perhaps incorrectly)that even if the house was worth exactly the same price, or a little less, that I would still be ahead, since compared to renting I would have lost more than $32,000 (assuming $850/m)in the same period any way.

But it is sounding as if waiting a few months and paying off more of the debt will help?
