<In technology and telecommunication, I am lost as to understanding what certain companies are about. For instance, Cisco, Linear Tech, ADC Telecommunications. Descriptions I have read in Value Line do not really do it for me. Can someone explain? >

You can find out a lot about a company by examining their 10K and 10Q reports to the SEC. These may be obtained from URL:

http://www.sec.gov/edaux/formlynx.htm

The 10K is a lot like an annual report (no glossy pictures), and the 10Q is a lot like a quarterly report (no pictures either). There is usually a lot about what the company makes or does, and most of the financial data you need to evaluate the business. It will not explain the technology, however, that makes a CSCO gizmo better than one from COMS, for example. But it is free for the downloading time.
