<I've never "met" a female cantor....>

I'm not a cantor. I'm only trying my best to stand in for cantorial duties, since my remote congregation is so tiny (35 families) that we can only afford a rabbi a few times a year. Although he's a nice and distinguished rabbi, he's 75 and unfortunately can only sing one note...and that note is usually off-key.

There are others with better voices or more knowledge in the congregation, but nobody is willing or able to step up to the plate and deliver both together. If I don't act as cantor, many important prayers would be recited, instead of sung.

Tonight's service is about 2 hours long. Tomorrow's lasts from 10 AM to 7 PM, with a mid-day hiatus. Yom Kippur is a fast day -- no eating or drinking from sundown today until after sunset tomorrow. That's why I'm concerned about my stamina and voice.

That's the story of my life -- although I'm actually very lazy, I generally end up doing whatever needs to be done.
