<January 12, 2005, not a date that exactly leaps off the calendar.>

Well, the Beltran signing is in NY and Jan 12th is an important date in NY sports history. This year marks the 36th anniverary of Joe Namath and the Jets famous victory in Super Bowl III. In the 45 years that the franchise has existed, that is still their only championship. Lots and lots of good players and coaches (and some not so good ones) have passed through over the years. None of them have managed to find their way to the big dance, unless it has been with another team.

That is certainly a strange day for a new provision of a tax law to take effect. Of course when you consider the source, nothing should ever surprise us anymore.
