<< does IRS has web site where one can track status of tax return filed? >>

No. You can call 1-800-829-4477 with your return in front of you to check their automated refund information system. To save yourself aggravation, note the following:

1. If you filed on paper, wait at least a month.

2. If you filed electronically, your return is transmitted noon Thursday after confirmation of filing was issued. The refund will be direct deposited Friday of the following week or mailed the second Friday. Example: You e-file on Monday, 2/7/2000. On Tuesday, 2/8, IRS confirms receipt. Direct deposit should happen on 2/18, a paper check on 2/25. If confirmation was issued after noon on 2/10, everything drops back a week.

3. They only update the refund information line once a week (over the weekend), so don't bother more often.
