I think that you equate having someone committed with a terrible occurrence. It doesn't have to be. Whatever steps can be taken to give them the help they need to live a full and healthy life.

I think imprisoning someone for reprogramming that thinks they are Jesus is no different that imprisoning someone who thinks they are a homosexual for reprogramming.

Helping someone is a good thing, imprisoning them and calling it therapy does not seem good to me. Unless you can prove they are a danger to others.
