<< It seems like there is a gym on every other block. But then again, he wanted to open a gym in New York City. Depending on the location, you might do better.>>

In this neck of the woods (Long Island) it seems that every high street is sprouting "Curves" gyms like a dose of The Pox.
I have a shrewd idea that these franchises...or any similar franchise...are limited to the number that can open up in any one area. This doesn't help, of course, if there's a decent Gold's Gym next door or any one of the excellent private gyms around.

Curves seems to be the popular franchise among folk who want to open a gym as a business enterprise. The Curves web site even offers a "Curves Camp" .....because they understand that the potential franchisee may have no experience in the exercise field and might need a weeks worth of tutorials to show 'em all about this exercise lark (check it out if you don't believe me!) I suspect there are similar knock-offs around.

These low end exercise places seem to have a fair number of restrictions on the services offered beyond what constitutes the "Curves" formula, no flexibility on the gym/client contract and a limited opportunity for long term client retention (they market to the overweight and out-of-shape......folk who, by definition, don't stick with diet or exercise programs for long..... and also offer a month by month membership giving the above an easy out when two or three workouts haven't produced the desired results)

This might seem a long post for a dentist to be offering on gym franchises. The daughter got her personal trainer certification this summer.....to help supplement the Diploma in Mixology (Harvard) as a money making enterprise during vet. school....we get a lot of promotional literature and spam on this topic.
