Yup, and that is just part of First Union's idiocy. I started working at my current bank at a branch in Fort Myers, FL. First Union also had branches in Fort Myers. One of the most common things I heard from former First Union customers who were switching to us was that they were charged for using the automated telephone system to check their balance or hear their account history! I remember one customer who switched to us just after F.U. started this new fee schedule, and he said that one month he suddenly had a fee of over $100 on his checking account statement. He called the automated system daily to check his balance.
