<<I have never had any credit problems and never carry a balance on a card. I don't expect any problems. I just want to do preventive maintenance on my credit history like I would on my truck so I can avoid problems. But I don't want to spend too much money doing it.>>

PSUEngineerFool,

Never carrying a balance, and wanting to keep an eye on your credit history are both very Foolish ideas. From what I've read, it's advisable to check your credit history once a year if you want to stay on top of it to be safe.

Some agencies will give you a free report once a year. I don't have any of the links handy, but I'll betcha within a few hours, you'll see plenty of links posted here by other Fools. ; )
