<<I tenaciously refused to have them until (finally) I found I could not rent a car even with a $6K cash deposit!!>>

The same goes for my father, he always pays his balance off in full each month. A trait that I learned from him. Thus, when I was in college, it seemed I was the only one of my friends who never complained about oweing so much on my credit card(s).

<<I HATE credit cards. Always have.>>

Don't hate credit cards. While they may mean trouble for many people. In your case, if you pay off your balance in full each month and don't let the banks get any interest from you, think of it as getting an interest-free loan!!
