Sure, it _could_ be. Anything _could_ be. I can't be _certain_ that there's no six-legged boogie monster under my chair who disappears spontaneously a split second before each attempt I make to spot him. Thus we get the long-standing academic precept that one can't prove a negative, and the burden of proof is on the claimant.

I'm with the OP: people posit in the divine some reflection of themselves. That situates morality in the only place it really belongs: with people.
