I was standing on the dock that's in the third picture down from the top. I happened to look down into the water and saw a thirty foot long gray whale swim by under water. I never saw him come up to breath, and it's the only time I've ever seen a gray whale.

Perhaps it's worth noting that the fortifications pictured were filmed in the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman."

Fort Worden is a fine state park. There a nice Youth Hostel in one of the old army barracks.

It's also worth noting that travel to Port Townsned may be had on public transit from Seattle or Sea Tac Airport for a few dollars plus ferry fare.
