Yes, you can. I think you would do better with SEP-IRA in your case but do read up on the differences.

If you don't have enough money now to fund your SEP-IRA, you can file for an automatic extension and fund the account by August 15. For traditional or ROTH IRA you will have to fund it by April 16.
