I thought the rules for this were so weird when I read over it. Can't you give your kids a gift of $500 and they put the money in the ed-IRA? Can you justify the contribution thru gifts from grandparents and other relatives? What if your child contributes from their own money? I don't understand how the IRS qualifies this income exclusion. It seems like a pretty stupid rule with a lot of get-arounds.
